Many of us who came of age after Berra's playing career was over remember him more for his witticisms (known as Yogi-isms) than his prowess on the ball field. So in memory of Yogi, here are a few:
Yogi, you were pretty good too...
- Love is the most important thing in the world, but baseball is pretty good, too.
- It's deja vu all over again.
- It ain't over 'til it's over
- Even Napoleon had his Watergate.
- You better cut the pizza in four pieces because I'm not hungry enough to eat six.
- In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is.
- If you don't know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.
- Ninety percent of this game is half mental.
- The other teams could make trouble for us if they win.
- You wouldn't have won if we'd beaten you.Think! How the hell are you gonna think and hit at the same time?
- When you come to a fork in the road, take it.
- Congratulations. I knew the record would stand until it was broken.
- I wish I had an answer to that because I'm tired of answering that question.
- Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded.
- You can observe a lot by just watching.
- A nickel ain't worth a dime anymore.
- We made too many wrong mistakes.
- So I'm ugly. So what? I never saw anyone hit with his face.
- Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical
- It was impossible to get a conversation going, everybody was talking too much.
- I can see how he (Sandy Koufax) won 25 games. What I don’t understand is how he lost five.
- You should always go to other people’s funerals, otherwise, they won’t come to yours.
- The future ain't what it used to be.
And
- I really didn't say everything I said.
Yogi, you were pretty good too...
